2017 Retail/Mixed-Use Design Review
The DLR Group Retail/Mixed-Use Studio is focused on the future of retail. Our passion is the design of flexible spaces for new construction, renovation, and adaptive reuse to create engaging spaces for people to gather, shop, work, and live. This design review shares the thinking of our Retail/Mixed-Use designers about how to deliver these type of spaces, and examples of our work in 2017.
During the last year, we expanded our geographic reach and expertise in mixed-use development with the acquisitions of Kwan Henmi in San Francisco and Staffelbach in Dallas. These new partners have generated exciting new design new opportunities, including a $200 million mixed-use project in Sarasota, Fla., and several new retail opportunities in Texas.
In 2017, we increased our design of food and beverage specialty spaces by more than 300 percent. Our studio understands how to efficiently reposition shopping centers with localized offerings for specialized food and entertainment tenants. As the e-commerce and brick and mortar lines continue to fluctuate, this experience, along with expertise from other DLR Group design studios, will continue to benefit our clients. Our ability to bring Education, Hospitality, and Workplace expertise to the table allows DLR Group to deliver innovative, unique spaces within existing retail environments.
To leverage consumer desires for memorable experiences, we continue to partner with entertainment experts, such as our collaboration with Landmark Entertainment for the Cybrary, an innovative education and entertainment concept in Homestead, Fla.
