Andrea Cohen Gehring, FAIA, and Virginia Marquardt, AIA are participating in the AIA|LA POWERFUL: Women Leading Design symposium at SCI-Arc in downtown Los Angeles. This year’s 2nd annual symposium is focused on creating a more diverse workplace that promotes a greater diversity of viewpoints. More than 35 speakers from different companies around the United States are bringing various practices of achieving success in a male dominated field. The conference has incorporated keynote speakers, panels, information sharing and more in order to create participation on the subject.
1:30 – 2 PM
Virginia Marquardt is member of a panel discussion on Finding Success in Los Angeles. This panel will discuss the pros and cons of living and designing in LA, and share personal stories on how to find success as a female architect in this city.
2 – 2:30 PM
Andrea Cohen Gehring is part of a panel discussing Credentialing & Credibility in Design. The panel will explore the low percentage of licensed female architects and probe the reasons for this disproportionate credentialing. As of 2015, only 17% of licensed architects are females; even fewer actually pursue being a design architect. Andrea will lead a discussion to answer the question, “Is there something about the architecture design office culture that is less family-friendly?”
