Join Pat Hyland as he presents Finding Space for the Arts on Campus: Integrating Underutilized Sites at the SCUP Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His session is 11 a.m. on Monday, March 12.
Left-over, forgotten, marginalized, and complicated campus and facility spaces, when properly programmed, creatively conceived, and thoughtfully re-considered, can serve as functional, efficient, and inspiring sites for performing arts programs. Building new, state-of-the-art, stand-alone performing arts facilities is not financially viable for many institutions, however, additions and renovations within "found" sites can be realistically funded, achieve learning objectives, and propel programs. Pat and the panel will discuss how applying metrics to existing facilities, identifying site opportunities, and envisioning new scenarios resulted in maximizing underutilized campus space.
