“Integrated design is the blending of ideas in parallel, as opposed to the stacking of ideas in series.”
As DLR Group’s Acoustics Leader, Jonathan coordinates the diverse needs of the firm’s various disciplines to create functional spaces that deliver adequate sound isolation, proper background noise levels, and an acoustic environment appropriate for a building’s programmed use. He has experience working within a wide range of project budgets and programming requirements, integrating solutions into aesthetic and functional systems that complement the team’s design.
“As designers, we must understand the cultural shifts and trends in human activity, and allow that knowledge to push buildings in new directions, both functionally and aesthetically.”
Jonathan specializes in architectural acoustic design for a variety of specific performing arts venues including multi- and single-purpose theaters, concert halls, film theaters, music performance spaces, music schools, and other entertainment venues. As an engineer and musician, he has a unique perspective on acoustic design, architectural acoustics, vibration, and mechanical noise control. Jonathan is a lifelong musician and music fan; he has studied piano, vocal, and saxophone performance from a young age, as well as music theory, ear training, music history, and the recording arts.
