Design Achievement - Bloomington Care Center represents the client’s desire to provide the community the latest continuum of care option on the existing Gideon Pond Campus. DLR Group’s design supports the client’s holistic care model to promote the healing of the mind, body and spirit. A "tree of life" located in the newly created main campus entry, symbolizes the spirit of growth and it reaches through all three levels, visually anchoring and unifying the campus. The exterior design took is inspiration from the existing traditional campus of red brick, gabled red roofs, and white trim. The exterior scale and use of materials are compatible with the context of the existing campus, resulting in new construction that appears to have been in place for years. Cooper-clad circular elements are introduced to reflect the functions of the interior behind them and many exterior materials are expressed on the interior. The new campus core is used as circulation connecting the full spectrum of senior living and care environments. A variety of activity spaces are located in the core including a Wellness center containing a warm water pool, casual dining that allows families and residents a destination without leaving the campus or infringing on residential personal space, and a fixed seat Cinema used for entertainment and education.

Each skilled nursing floor is divided into two neighborhoods with two households of ten residents in each. The scale of the households support family and staff in their natural care giving roles. By decentralizing activities, dining, bathing and personal laundry, residents are able to experience normal patterns of living.
