Boone Park Elementary SchoolNorth Little Rock, AR 00000
Design Achievement - DLR Group was tasked with the challenge to provide parity and equity to the elementary schools in the district by developing a 21st Century prototype elementary school that would fit on four unique and challenging sites. The new Boone Park, Meadow Park, Lakewood and Amboy Elementary Schools replace outdated facilities all built before 1969. At the heart of the design of Boone Park Elementary is flexibility and durability, designed to accommodate future growth, and can be easily adapted to new curriculums. The design features three distinct pods shared by two grade levels, each having flexible spaces and furniture, as well as open discovery areas to facilitate collaboration and integrated learning. Data and power are available throughout the space, a moveable marker board door allows for multiple group use, tack surfaces for mounting student work and storage for teacher materials. A dedicated commons space is connected to the gymnasium by a moveable wall, which when opened, creates one large event space for school or community use.
Scope Summary - The new prototype elementary school contains 67,666 SF of space and will serve 500 students in grades Pre K-5. The scope includes three separate pods that each accommodate two grade levels. Each pod contains flexible classrooms and furniture, and an open discovery area to facilitate group learning. Outdoor learning spaces allow collaborative and hands-on learning with two courtyards, an outdoor stage, rain water collection area and a butterfly garden. DLR Group provided planning and architecture services, landscape design, mechanical, electrical and structural engineering.
