Design Achievement - Canopy by Hilton Dallas Uptown is located in one of the city’s most walkable neighborhoods; full of vibrant retail, local breweries, chef-driven restaurants, and a burgeoning arts district. As one of Hilton’s fastest growing upscale brands, each Canopy hotel strives to be locally relevant and unique to its neighborhood. Canopy sits as the centerpiece of the mixed-use luxury retail and residential development “Cityplace,” and is fast becoming a favorite amenity for local residents, while meeting ownership desires. DLR Group’s interior design masterfully blends a tailored, residential aesthetic with the historic character of the neighborhood. Handcrafted Venetian plaster provides the back drop for public spaces accented with natural wood tones and rustic bricks formed into a dramatic barrel-vaulted ceiling. The focal point of the space is the reclaimed front of a historic M-Line trolley car that informs design inspirations throughout the hotel. Canopy Central is the heart of the lobby, providing an artisanal breakfast in the morning, and transforming in the evening to become an extension of the bar.  Meeting spaces on the top level utilize a rooftop bar as part of a pre-function space with an expansive roof deck offering the best views of the city.

Scope Summary - The 150-key upscale hotel features a unique canopy bed that is the signature piece of each of Canopy property. DLR Group’s design took further inspiration from the materials and forms of the M-Line trolley using the slatted wood of the historic trolley car and black matte metal insets defining individual passenger windows. The hotel features Canopy Central at the street level and transfer spaces for guests that require later checkouts, allowing them to freshen up after a day of exploring the city. A “retreat” area adjacent to the reception welcome table offers a quieter place for guests to be alone together with casual seating areas and a place to catch up on emails or work. Additional public amenity space on the top floor includes a gracious fitness room and 2,500 SF of meeting space that open to a roof top bar with spectacular views of the city.  The hotel’s 99,300 SF of space have been carefully curated to mix a tailored aesthetic with historic accents, complete with work from local artists that keep the space tied to the neighborhood. DLR Group provided interior design services.
