Design Achievement - This international investment banking firm took their headquarters move as an opportunity to find an artistic expression of their three pillars: philosophy, people and process. DLR Group|Staffelbach’s design moves the firm from a predominantly private office layout to an open design with just a dozen private offices. Looking to maximize the design’s reflection of this philosophy of openness, the design team took advantage of the 17-foot ceiling heights on the top floor. By replacing formerly closed spandrel glass with vision glass, a dramatic increase in natural light is achieved in an expansive height. To achieve an open office feel without a typical panel-based system, low desks are punctuated by tall custom-designed bookcase-style storage units. This establishes a studious library feel while not sacrificing connected open space. Careful attention was given to emphasizing the client’s extensive art collection, which is positioned throughout the space for visitors, clients and staff’s enjoyment. Tours of the space are frequent, as the workplace has received recognition by Dallas art and architectural communities as a harmonic balance of workplace strategy, art and architecture.
Scope Summary - The 45,000 SF workplace occupies the top two floors of a downtown Dallas highrise on the edge of the Arts District. Extra wide circulation paths with adjacent gathering spaces facilitate socialization. The existing exposed concrete structure proved inspirational; concrete tile floor in high traffic areas and a panelized concrete wall at the entry were integrated to form a consistent visual foil to the refined dark woods and artwork throughout. Follow-on work included design for five additional Carlson Capital locations including internationally. All offices emphasize the firm’s three pillars and reflect their specific geographical culture. DLR Group|Staffelbach provided full interior design services from predesign through construction administration including space planning, FF&E, environmental graphics, lighting design, technology coordination, and move management.
DLR Group acquired Stafflebach in August 2017. Today, the combined design expertise and resources of Staffelbach and DLR Group serve clients as a global, integrated design firm committed to elevating the human experience through design.
