St. Joseph, MN 56374
Design Achievement - The College of Saint Benedict aimed to develop a unique housing option for college seniors to further prepare them for life after college. DLR Group's design for this LEED Platinum housing development supports the client's goals of fostering independence and providing students with real world experiences. Students are responsible for maintaining the homes, monitoring utility use, and completing everyday tasks such as snow removal. The site and architectures reflect a typical residential environment and blend in with a growing neighborhood while providing a direct connection to the main campus. The townhomes are organized around a courtyard to help foster a community attitude and provide a neighborhood identity.
Scope Summary - This student housing development consists of four townhomes. Each two-story townhome is 11,941 SF. A one-story, 4,423 SF commons building located between the main campus and the surrounding neighborhood is designed as an iconic transition point between the two entities. Outdoor porches, a fire pit and outdoor kitchen also contribute to community sensibility. DLR Group provides architecture, engineering, planning, and building optimization services for this LEED Platinum project.
