Pueblo Convention Center Expansion

Design Achievement – The expansion to the Pueblo Convention Center acts as a new gateway for downtown and Pueblo’s Historic Riverwalk. DLR Group's design creates a contemporary interpretation of the existing facility by incorporating similar massing, rhythm, scale and materiality to create a harmonious composition. Conceptually, the design is a reflection to the city’s history and innovation in steel manufacturing as well as being the centerpiece of the community’s pride and commitment to the future. The exterior of the building utilizes steel and glass to celebrate this part of the town’s history along with warm red earth tones and terracing rooflines that echo the context of the mountainous terrain. A new public plaza welcomes guests as they arrive for events to the updated facilities, and offers a place for special events to host larger outdoor gatherings or concerts. A semi-private covered area connects the plaza and building, providing an intimate setting for outdoor cocktail events as an extension of the Pre-function space of the Exhibition Hall. An iconic 80 foot tall steel and translucent glass tower acts as a beacon to guide visitors to the facility and downtown Pueblo. The Exhibition hall was designed to be a flexible space to accommodate a wide range of events from weddings and formal dinners to trade shows and youth sport events. The facility also has a unique partner and tenant, Professional Bull Riders Sport Performance Center, which is a training facility for athletes. The PBR training facility is connected to the pre-function by a Fan Zone which is an interactive gallery space with memorabilia on PBR, its riders and its rich history.

Scope Summary - The scope of work encompassed a 52,000 SF addition of exhibition and pre-function area to the existing structure. The expanded Pueblo Convention Center has an 18,000 SF exhibit hall space, a pre-function area, 18,000 SF Professional Bull Riders Sport Performance Center, PBR Fan Zone, and a welcoming outdoor plaza. The design also includes a sky bridge to a 500 stall Parking Garage across Main Street.
