Design Achievement – Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) teamed with its surrounding community to build a multi-use facility that hosts a variety of University and community events. The core purpose of the new facility is to provide competition and practice venues for the SMSU football and soccer programs. The capacity of the complex is approximately 5,000 fans with a variety of seating options including structured seating, terraced seating, and overflow seating in grassy end-zone areas. On the second level, conferencing areas serve as suites and game day and gathering and meeting spaces. An event plaza area provides a flexible outdoor space for large gatherings and events.

Scope Summary – The scope of this project was the design of a new 40,000 SF regional sports complex. To extend use of the facility into winter months, the design allows for a portable air supported dome to be added as part of a strategic expansion. A state-of-the-art press and media area for game day can also be used as a classroom and lab for SMSU radio/TV students. DLR Group provided architecture services for this project.
