Design Achievement - DLR Group’s design to the Cavaliers’ baseball stadium builds upon the University of Virginia baseball team’s unprecedented success in recent years, and aims to elevate Davenport Field to among the elite NCAA Division-I ballparks. DLR Group’s design positions the program for future success with new training spaces and offices, as well as significant enhancements to the spectator experience. Nestled into a tight, hard-to-access site, the expansion delivers a new 'front door' for the stadium, a memorable gateway for fans, student-athletes, recruits, and visitors.

Scope Summary – The largest expansion in Davenport Field history accomplishes multiple goals while reinforcing the established architectural heritage of the University. In terms of spectator experience, Phase I includes new and enhanced options for viewing the game, including wrap-around elevated concourse, chair back seating, outfield bleachers, berm, picnic terrace, and the new Field Level Club. Team training and recruitment will benefit from the new Pitching Development Center, batting cages, bullpens, and baseball operations suite. Additionally, future phase construction has been coordinated to include suite, club, and party deck spaces added above the expansion concourse, fulfilling the expressed desire for a ‘big time’ look and feel. DLR Group provided architectural, structural engineering, and laser scanning services.
