Design Achievement – Falcon Stadium at the United States Air Force Academy has served as a memorable venue in an amazing setting since it first opened in 1962. DLR Group's modernization design is rooted in collaboration with the Academy to develop a vision and strategy for elevating the game day experience at this iconic stadium. Numerous renovation options, occurring both inside and outside the facility, focus on improving the student-athlete and fan experience and increasing revenue opportunities. Features such as improved circulation; additional restrooms; additional concession operations; new seating options and premium seating opportunities; as well as enlarged and improved locker room spaces for student-athletes will create a dynamic venue that meets and exceeds the expectations of student-athletes, alumni, and fans.
Scope Summary – The scope of this project encompasses the modernization of the 47,000 seat Falcon Stadium at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. The proposed plan envisions creating a more intimate venue in order to create higher ticket demand while providing varied and better seating options in the renovated venue. Restroom and concessions facilities will be doubled. Student-athlete locker facilities will be enlarged and become a better recruiting tool through the use of dynamic branding and graphics. The creation of a Memorial Gardens just outside the stadium will provide a dramatic setting for telling the story of the United States Air Force, while highlighting the many sacrifices made by those in service of their country. The Memorial Gardens is intended to become a year-round attraction, allowing the backdrop of the renovated Falcon Stadium to become an integral part of the story. DLR Group is providing full architectural services and structural engineering.
