Construction Commences on New Fort Bend ISD High School in Texas
Construction is officially underway at Fort Bend Independent School District high school #12. To accommodate a surge in student enrollment growth, DLR Group’s design creates a collaborative environment featuring a variety of indoor and outdoor instructional spaces that will be used by the campus’ 3,000 students.

Fort Bend ISD is the eighth largest school district in Texas, currently serving approximately 76,000 students. Enrollment is expected to reach 85,700 by 2027. The new 502,000-SF school is located in the Sienna Plantation community in Missouri City, Texas, a suburb southwest of Houston known for its ethnic and economic diversity.
“DLR Group’s design is inspired by canyon formations and natural landscape,” said DLR Group Principal Taryn Kinney, AIA, LEED AP. “An interior courtyard is bordered by two linear buildings to accent the characteristics of a canyon. The courtyard connects programs and spaces across the campus and offers a secure outdoor space for class-sized groups, individual study, or student performances.”
Learning environments are dispersed throughout the two-story buildings and are comprised of classrooms, science labs, a multi-purpose room, teacher planning centers, and a learning lab. They are organized around open, collaborative spaces with learning stairs connecting the two levels. Multi-purpose rooms on the lower level open up to the courtyard to allow learning activities to spill outdoors. The use of operable partitions, mobile markerboards, and flexible furniture allow students and educators to easily create the ideal learning space for every need.
Fort Bend ISD voters approved the largest bond program in the district’s history on November 6, 2018. In addition to funding the new $139 million high school, the $992.6 million bond package also funds new classrooms and facilities, district-wide improvements, safety and security enhancements, and technology upgrades. The new high school is scheduled to open in fall 2023.
