Cuyahoga County and Cleveland Select Lead Planner for Justice Center
Cuyahoga County and Cleveland agreed on a programmer to lead the planning process for replacing or renovating the outdated County Justice Center.
A 12-member committee of city and county officials voted unanimously to select DLR Group. The selection is subject to approval by County Council, which is expected to act in the next two months.
Over the next year or so, DLR Group will help the committee determine what to do with the downtown Justice Center, which houses Cleveland Municipal Court and the county’s main jail and Common Pleas Court. For the overall project, DLR Group Principal Andrew Cupples, FAIA, will serve as the project’s leader.
“What set DLR Group apart, in part, were the subcontractors that will work with the firm and the expertise they will bring to planning for a new jail,” says Cuyahoga County Administrative Judge John J. Russo. “The key for us came down to the jail, and who was the strongest in team presentation in dealing with the jail, mental health (and) safety. This group clearly rose above.”
