Al Khobar Mall

Design Achievement - This project is proposed in Al Khobar, in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia along the coast of the Persian Gulf. DLR Group's design and orientation maximizes the benefits from the site by taking advantage of the views and water to provide for opportunities for al fresco dining and open plazas connected to the corniche. The project maximizes the site with the orientation of the mall and anchor tenants for clear access points, and positions the hotel, villas, and dining opportunities to connect to the coastal views and pedestrian walkways along the corniche. The mall is meticulously crafted and molded to respond to contextual variables such as traffic flow, nature, and views. The front of the mall is positioned parallel to Corniche Road, and unveils a more articulated portion of the project by terracing the different levels which not only break down the scale of the three-level shopping center but also provide vast views towards the sea and signature fountain. The music, lights, and movement of the large water fountain in front of the project creates a unique sensory experience. The exterior terraces on the ground, first, second, and third levels offer a wide variety of dining options to enjoy the fountain show from one of the signature family restaurants or to relax in the shisha lounge amongst friends.

Scope Summary - The scope of work for this project includes a 2,157,324-SF, three level mall; and a 27-story tower with 12 levels of service apartments over 15 levels of hotel rooms. In addition, 36 private villas are planned overlooking the main water feature. DLR Group provided architecture and master planning services.
