Sarooj F+B Complex

  • Project Type

Design Achievement - Placed in an urban area of Muscat near the beach commercial zone, Sarooj F+B Complex will become the primary destination for hip and family dining in town. Predominantly Food and Beverage focused, this project brings to the area unique concepts never before seen in Oman. DLR Group’s design gives each of the restaurants a mezzanine level to create a sense of verticality and brightness in the space. The contemporary design mixes will Arabesque aesthetics that create a harmonious blend of progressive and local expressions. The architectural elements that comprise this restaurant complex have a clean and very simple approach. Each of the restaurants has a vertical element that incorporates local Omani architectural features such as the illuminated mashrabiya. Other remnants of Arabic architecture are seen in the main entries of the project through arched openings inviting the locals and visitors to this dynamic project. The tall shopfronts will allow for significant natural light to enter the double height restaurants and bring the exterior in through the use of large operable glass doors effectively creating an inside/outside space. The internal courtyard in this development becomes the heart of the project. All exterior access into the courtyard has the ability to open during the cooler months to transform into a comfortable outdoor space. The park in the center of the courtyard will allow children to play while parents enjoy a coffee or a meal from one of the adjacent venues.

Scope Summary - The project is comprised of 10 restaurants / cafes with a total area of 30,000 square feet. The restaurants facing the street are double height and allow for visibility from the outside as well as from the internal courtyard. This concentric courtyard features a well landscaped park for children always in sight from the restaurants. To optimize the plot size, one level of parking is provided underground. DLR Group provided architecture and planning services.
