Design Achievement - Scott County's burgeoning population growth created a shortage of courtroom space for its justice system. DLR Group's design creates an effective and dignified court in enclosed space. DLR Group worked collaboratively with judges and other court users to design the space, making significant refinements to the original courtroom design. To address the goals of the judges and users for advanced technology integration, new systems are discreetly housed in custom cherry millwork to complement the existing courtrooms. This solution meets current demand while the design and construction techniques also enable technology changes and upgrades over time. Attention to detail in these, and other finishes, align with the functions and dignified character of the space.

Scope Summary - The scope of this project entailed design of 6,000 SF courtroom and support spaces including a jury deliberation room, judge's chambers, court reporter space, law clerk space, and secure holding area for detainees; including two group holding cells, two attorney visitation booths, a correctional officer station, and bailiff workstation. An electronic evidence presentation system, central public address surround sound system, judges bench master control touch pad, central recording system, real-time court reporting, multi-level courtroom lighting system, flat screen monitor, and Smartboard behind the witness bench highlight the many technologies implemented in the design. DLR Group provided architecture, engineering, and construction management services.
