Design Achievement - The Washington Square Expansion & Renovation elevates an already-successful super-regional mall to be a landmark experience for shoppers and business success for its owners. DLR Group's creative planning and design used a relatively modest addition to simultaneously increase the mall's gross leasable area (GLA); to create a striking new "lifestyle" front door identity with high visibility from the adjacent freeway and frontage road; to provide a breathtaking high-volume interiors experience; and to attract premiere tenants. The mall's transformation into an attractive, light-filled destination experience exudes a timeless design quality that will extend the value of the owner's investment.

Scope Summary - The scope entailed substantial improvements to an existing regional enclosed mall, including an 80,000 SF expansion of GLA, new concourse area and two new mall entries; interior improvements to the existing 1.2 million SF mall including new carpeted soft seating areas, restroom renovations and one new family restroom; a new four-level, 575-stall parking structure; a new two-level, 500-stall parking deck; and site upgrades including frontage road improvements and a new loading area. DLR Group provided architecture, engineering, and interiors services.
