Design Achievement - The City of Woodbury, one of the fastest-growing communities in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area, found its facilities overcrowded and staff straining to respond to the need for services. DLR Group designers worked with city administrators and department heads to program a departmental reorganization and lead a renovation and expansion project to grow the facility by 50 percent. In alignment with the value that the City puts on sustainability, the design employs daylighting and high-performance mechanical and electrical systems for energy efficiency and a healthy user experience. To fulfill the City's wish for green spaces, the design preserves the trees and wetlands surrounding the building, and includes an adjacent rain garden and a new green roof.

Scope Summary - The 14,000 SF addition to the City Hall provides expanded office space, conference rooms, and a new two-story public link opening the offices to the expanded trail system and wetlands. The project repositioned the public corridor to the south, which allows for future flexibility to expand north. The east-west orientation provides natural daylighting which extends deep into the building. Further supporting the City's sustainability goals, a porous paving system was added to the expanded parking lot and new retention pond filters that treats parking lot runoff. DLR Group provided architecture and interior design services.
