The existing middle school building on the McDonogh School campus, which was built during the Great Depression, could not accommodate the school’s redeveloped curriculum that focuses on the latest trends in learning. It simply did not support flexible and adaptable spaces or modern learning environments found in today’s schools. Our design for the new Greenebaum Middle School replaces the obsolete 1930s building with a state-of-the-art facility that responds to the educational needs of students and reflects the scale of the adjacent Georgian-style buildings.

The exterior of the 67,000-SF building naturally follows the slope of the site, beginning with a two-story presence on the senior quad that gradually reveals a third, lower-level to the north as the grade fades away. Inside the school are key program areas including collaborative classrooms organized in grade pods, a dedicated library, performing and visual arts, as well as maker spaces.
