Join DLR Group | Tsoi Kobus Design at the Healthcare Design Conference + Expo in Kansas City, Mo. Senior Principal and Client Leader Richard Kobus, FAIA, FACHA, will present a session titled, “Envisioning Holistic Healthcare: Henry Ford Health’s Drive for Health Equity.”

The Henry Ford Hospital campus expansion is transforming Detroit’s New Center neighborhood, where the organization began more than a century ago. The system has served as an essential safety net hospital for Detroit and a national destination for complex care. Health equity is at the core of Henry Ford Health’s mission: “To improve people’s lives through excellence in the science and art of healthcare and healing.” To further its mission, Henry Ford Hospital engaged with community stakeholders to target environmental justice, job opportunities, and community accessibility through the creation of public green spaces, and sustainability and resiliency initiatives, in addition to a renewed focus on health, science, and innovation to create better health outcomes.

Learning objectives include:

  • Gain insight into the key drivers of health equity: access to quality care, economic stability, environmental interventions, and social and community context.
  • Learn from the Henry Ford Hospital case study on the inextricable link between the determinants of health and health equity.
  • Understand how one healthcare institution, in unison with community partners, tackles complex combinations of determinants of health through meaningful interventions.
  • Advocate for health equity by addressing the social, environmental, economic, and political determinants of health.

Richard will be accompanied by co-presenters Kristen Banas, associate principal | HVAC at BR+A Consulting Engineers, Jenn Cross, associate vice president and principal landscape architect at HDR, and Jerry Darby, vice president of planning and design at Henry Ford Health.

Their session will be held on the first day of the conference, Sunday, October 26 from 9:45 – 10:45 AM.

This project was completed by Tsoi Kobus Design prior to DLR Group’s acquisition in January of 2025.
