Planning and Creating Equitable Outdoor Spaces that Connect Children with the Natural World
As districts across the country consider taking learning outside in response to COVID-19, they need help rethinking the physical landscape. These sessions will be useful to facilities directors, school administrators, and educators to envision and implement nurturing and inspiring school environments.
DLR Group welcomes Nancy Striniste, Founder and Principal Designer at EarlySpace, LLC to explore the topic of early childhood outdoor learning environments that disrupt stale approaches to play yard planning. Nancy’s recently published book, “Nature Play at Home: Creating Outdoor Spaces that connect Children with the Natural World,” focuses on transforming predictable mundane playgrounds into spaces that support the whole child – sensory, motor, language and literacy, social/emotional, as well as creativity and sense of initiative. Providing access to nature is essential for children’s physical and mental health and happiness.
