American River College Celebrates New Career Technical Education Building
(Sacramento, Calif., Sept. 15, 2025) – American River College hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil its new Career Technical Education Building, designed by DLR Group. The 85,000-SF facility brings together a diverse array of programs – from automotive and welding to electronics and design technology – under one roof, creating a dynamic hub for hands-on learning and workforce development.

Among the building’s standout features is the nation’s first fully operational mortuary located on a college campus. ARC’s Funeral Services Education program offers students immersive training in embalming, restorative arts, grief psychology, and family services – all within a dedicated suite that includes a chapel, reception area, and private entry for community use.
This groundbreaking program complements other career-focused offerings in the building, such as a machine shop, welding booths, electronics labs, and a design hub equipped with laser cutters and 3D printers. The building’s transparent and interconnected layout fosters collaboration and visibility across disciplines, while its location creates a strong visual connection to the surrounding community.
