DLR Group's New Cleveland Studio Continues 120-Year Design Legacy in the City

(Cleveland, Aug. 7, 2025) – The global integrated design firm DLR Group has recommitted to a new office space in Playhouse Square. Located in the Hanna Building at 1422 Euclid Avenue, Suite 1300, the new office is designed to accommodate a growing studio of design professionals developing DLR Group’s design of civic, cultural and performing arts, federal, healthcare, higher education, hospitality, justice, K-12 education, mixed-use, and workplace projects in the region. The firm is committed to shaping Cleveland’s future and preserving its history. Its connection to Cleveland architecture dates to 1905, the founding year of the historic practice in Cleveland.

DLR Group’s notable projects in Cleveland include the recent multi-phased renovation and iconic new addition at Cleveland Museum of Natural History; the renovation of multiple theaters in Playhouse Square; and, most recently, the revitalization of the 118-year-old Westside Market in Ohio City, a transformation project that broke ground in Spring 2025.

Customized for a Collaborative Culture

DLR Group’s design for the new office prioritizes employee wellness and collaboration. Working areas and meeting spaces are planned along the perimeter, ensuring access to natural light and views of the city and Lake Erie in the most frequented spaces. An open café and coffee bar creates a welcoming entry, place for respite, and office anchor point, while open collaboration areas and conference rooms are interspersed to promote intellectual loitering among teams for collaborative thinking.

Purpose-built for Calm, Clarity, and Focus

Smaller huddle spaces and phone rooms are centrally located, giving the team choices about where they work according to their preferences and the task at hand. Quiet work areas provide opportunities to focus and decompress, while a model shop and interiors library are strategically placed in the heart of the space, putting the team’s creative work on display.

A Trusted Partner in Cleveland’s Ongoing Revitalization

“I look forward to inviting our community into our new space, because the experience will immerse them in our latest design work, and provide a glimpse into the region’s past, present, and future,” Janiak said.

Through strategic adaptive reuse and future-thinking design, DLR Group continues to shape Cleveland’s built environment while revitalizing neighborhoods and connecting people throughout the Ohio region.

The firm recently reimagined the new home for The City Club of Cleveland within a historic Playhouse Square building, leveraging integrated design to create a welcoming community hub where free speech and open dialogue thrive in the heart of downtown Cleveland. As another contribution to the city’s cultural fabric, DLR Group is currently engaged in a community-focused expansion of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, adding versatile spaces for exhibitions and events downtown. The firm has also completed many projects at The Ohio State University, including the Timashev Family Music Building; the Department of Theatre, Film and Media Arts; the Biomedical and Engineering Complex; and the Wexner Medical Center’s suburban outpatient care program, inclusive of three buildings on three sites focused on providing world-class quality medical care to local communities in Central Ohio.
