
DLR Group Leading Design Across 35 Acres for Phoenix Union High School District
(Phoenix, July 23, 2025) – Phoenix Union High School District (PXU) selects DLR Group to renovate and modernize Metro Tech High School, with McCarthy Building Companies. DLR Group will renovate existing buildings, design new structures, and make campus improvements to enhance the program opportunities for PXU students and unify the sprawling campus. Metro Tech is the most recent installment in the relationship between DLR Group and PXU, which includes over 100 years of partnership.
Metro Tech comprises 400,000 SF of educational buildings on a 35-acre campus and serves as a comprehensive high school with an emphasis on career and technical education. DLR Group will leverage its CTE design experience and prowess as it works with district leaders, students, and local industry experts to design educational environments that are tailormade for the PXU community. The project utilizes adaptive reuse principles for existing space and complements those with new infrastructure.
Originally built in 1947, Metro Tech, then known as West High School, has provided educational opportunities for the Phoenix Community for nearly 80 years. Today, Metro Tech is home to 1,825 high school-aged students and is one of 23 schools in the PXU portfolio. PXU is one of the largest high school districts in the country with over 26,000 students and 3,500 employees.
