
Michael Huffstetler Elected 106th President of SAME
(Washington, D.C., May 16, 2025) – DLR Group Federal Programs Leader Michael Huffstetler, LEED AP, F.SAME, was elected president of the Society of American Military Engineers. As president, Huffstetler will oversee the governance and strategic initiatives of SAME, leading its network of 25,000 members, 1,500 member companies, and more than 100 posts and field chapters worldwide.
During his 12-month presidential term, Huffstetler will focus on reinforcing the vital connection between industry and government in advancing national security. His leadership will be guided by three key objectives: aligning government and industry to address critical infrastructure needs; ensuring speed, relevance, and measurable impact; and attracting new talent to the engineering profession to sustain and strengthen the field.

A distinguished member of SAME since 1988 and a SAME Academy Fellow since 2021, Huffstetler brings more than 38 years of leadership in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries. His experience spans both public and private sectors, military and civilian projects, and operations in domestic and international locations.
Huffstetler’s military career began as a U.S. Air Force Civil Engineering Officer, including five years on exchange officer assignments with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He served as a project manager and executive officer with the Transatlantic Division, overseeing Air Force construction in the Middle East, before assuming the role of Liaison Officer to the USAF Chief of Staff and the Pentagon Renovation Program, representing USACE’s Baltimore District.
Following his military service, Huffstetler transitioned into the private sector, leading teams in commercial aviation and federal architecture and engineering projects for agencies such as the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, National Park Service, and Department of Veterans Affairs. Since 2021, he has led DLR Group’s Federal Programs, advancing mission-driven design solutions for government clients.
