Construction Begins on The Walk, a Community-Serving Mixed-Use Village

(Norwalk, Calif., Feb. 23, 2026) – A new community-serving mixed-use destination is officially underway in Southern California as the City of Norwalk, Primestor Development, and DLR Group celebrated the groundbreaking of The Walk on February 7, 2026. The project reflects Primestor’s strategy of investing in civic-anchored projects that deliver access, opportunity, and lasting value in underinvested cities.

Located adjacent to Norwalk City Hall, The Walk represents years of collaboration, planning, and commitment to a vision rooted in community need. DLR Group’s design of the retail, plaza, and open spaces empowers Primestor’s focus on human-centered design and contextual placemaking, ensuring the project feels accessible, welcoming, and integrated into the civic setting.

As Norwalk continues to grow, The Walk strengthens the city’s revitalization efforts by providing new dining, shopping, and public spaces for residents, workers, and families. Centered around landscaped pathways, welcoming plazas, and thoughtfully curated spaces, the pedestrian-friendly development transforms adjacent land into a place for daily activity, connection and community life while reinforcing City Hall’s role as a civic hub.

“Inspired in part by the peacocks at nearby Paddison Farm, the community-led design celebrates Norwalk’s character while supporting local businesses and community connection,” continued Perez.

Community engagement shaped the design vision, with input from residents and local leaders helping define gathering spaces while honoring traditions at the heart of the site. Inspired by City Hall’s mid-century modern roots, the architecture pairs Southern California casual with indoor-outdoor connectivity and a warm, contemporary palette. Natural stone and metal paneling create a backdrop for murals by local artists, while dining-focused retail, plazas, paseos, and open lawns establish a flexible setting for gathering at the center of the city.

“At Primestor, our mission is to build places that serve as anchors for the communities we are privileged to serve,” said Primestor CEO Arturo Sneider. “The Walk reflects how we approach development: with true ownership, deep collaboration with cities, and a commitment to delivering access to goods, services, and economic opportunity. This project is about creating a place that is rooted in Norwalk’s heritage of community, respect and family gathering while laying a foundation towards Norwalk’s future and its evolving needs and desires.”

The Walk features approximately 89,000 SF of retail buildings and public open space, including a network of interconnected plazas and pedestrian pathways. The development is expected to be completed by late 2027. DLR Group is providing architectural and planning design services.
