Vision to Reality: BOLD Transforms Learning
Why Employ BOLD?
We turn visionary ideas into everyday realities that transform teaching and learning.
BOLD team members helped shape a clear vision for the preferred state of teaching and learning for Sioux Falls School District’s new Jefferson High School. With that vision in place, the district team envisioned innovative spaces to advance learning. From initial visioning to the school’s opening, BOLD’s change management services guided leadership in setting clear expectations and supported educators as they developed practical procedures for using these spaces to foster collaboration, authentic, real-world learning, and student-centered experiences.
Our design focuses on a multi-disciplinary approach to curriculum delivery by breaking down the scale of the building into five learning suites, each housing 360 students. These learning suites open to a centralized media center and are connected by incubator labs. Within each learning suite is a learning commons that provides space for collaboration and student interaction. The result is a seamless translation of innovative ideas into daily practice, where the design of the school actively supports and enhances teaching and learning.
We create powerful alignment by uniting leadership, instruction, and operations around a shared purpose, so every part of your system drives success.
At Lincoln High School in Gahanna Jefferson School District, BOLD team members partnered with district and campus leaders to align vision and practice for a new, innovative school model. Through a collaborative process, the team developed a profile of a learner, identified instructional practices that translate to action, and established procedures to ensure consistency across the system.
The school’s new flexible learning spaces are a catalyst for this transformation, providing adaptable environments where educators can implement diverse instructional strategies and students can engage in personalized, collaborative, and inquiry-based learning.
We ignite educator and student growth by empowering teachers and staff with dynamic, ongoing professional learning that fuels innovation and deepens student engagement.
With the high school already in operation, our BOLD team partnered with Lake Zurich Schools to lead a series of engaging change management workshops, helping educators and leaders prepare to make the most of their new spaces. This work continued through our Furnished by BOLD professional learning series, which deepens educators’ understanding of how furniture can serve as a powerful tool to optimize engagement and support meaningful teaching and learning experiences.
According to Dr. Kelly Gault, superintendent of Lake Zurich Schools, this approach came to life through the redesign of learning spaces at Lake Zurich High School. The process included a furniture project that evolved into a transformative professional learning experience, as teachers discovered how intentional space design could reshape instruction. They began guiding students to configure classrooms for collaboration, Socratic seminars, or independent work, using the environment itself as a teaching tool. Students immediately sensed the difference and embraced the new possibilities for learning. The experience not only changed how classrooms looked but also how educators thought, planned, and led learning, an embodiment of dynamic learning in action.
We unlock the full potential of learning spaces by transforming new environments into multifaceted tools that inspire creativity, collaboration, and deeper learning.
After opening in August 2022, Frisco ISD hired DLR Group to deliver BOLD services to maximize learning in their new school. Minett Elementary School’s strong leadership team embraced our process to develop its organizational framework for opening a new campus with clear academic and cultural expectations and practices. The team’s guiding purpose and goals set the north star to generate the structures developed during the BOLD process.
After implementing these concepts, one second grader at Minett Elementary School shared that his new school is so fun! For reading, he loves the quiet window seat where he can focus and get lost in a good book. For math, his favorite place is the transparent collaboration space where he can write on the glass walls while his friends gather around to help solve problems. In his words and actions, the vision comes to life. Spaces make learning active, joyful, and connected.
We build lasting change that matters by growing sustainable capacity and culture, so your vision continues to thrive and evolve.
At the new Capps Middle School, teachers were initially hesitant to move into a flexible environment where they no longer owned a single classroom but shared a suite of interconnected learning spaces. However, through ongoing support and partnership with our BOLD team, that uncertainty transformed into confidence and collaboration.
Today, educators at the middle school embrace inquiry-based learning, designing cross-disciplinary projects that fill the shared spaces with curiosity, creativity, and student-driven discovery. And according to Dr. Fred Rhodes, superintendent of Putnam City School District, what started as a shift in space became a shift in mindset, one that continues to empower teachers and students to explore, question, and grow together.
