Borman K8 is a public school that serves the children of active-duty military members on Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona. Originally built as an elementary school, the campus lacked amenities that foster a well-rounded education for middle school students. Tucson Unified School District engaged us to design a renovation and expansion that modernizes existing spaces and adds middle school amenities. In addition to meeting the new construction standards for schools on military bases, the design provides a new front door for the campus that embraces the community of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
The existing campus at Borman K8 is a single 50,000-SF building that contains standard-sized classrooms, a library, and a multi-purpose room. Retrofitted classrooms will house special programs and computer labs. The renovation includes a new administrative space with a welcoming entrance for the community. Flexible classroom spaces promote collaboration and project-based learning, while the school’s fine arts program has a dedicated performance space to call home. A 35,000-SF addition provides more science and music rooms, collaborative classrooms, and a multipurpose room/gymnasium. We are providing architecture, interior design, furniture selection, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering services.
