2024 Green Building Challenge: Overall Winner

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History was recently recognized by the Cleveland 2030 District, in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council as the Overall Winner of the 2024 Green Building Challenge.

This annual awards program celebrates new construction and renovation projects across Northeast Ohio that exemplify a commitment to high-performance, sustainable building practices.

The museum earned the highest distinction in green building design, becoming the first museum in the United States to earn LEEDv4 BD+C NC Platinum certification. A prestigious status designated by USGBC, LEED is “the international standard for the design, construction and operation of high-performance structures” and LEED Platinum certification represents the pinnacle of energy-efficient building standards.

The award will be presented at the Building Education Series 2025 on May 8 in Cleveland.
