Design Research Leader B Sanborn Elected to EDRA’s Board
(CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 6, 2023) – Earlier this month, the Environmental Design Research Association, commonly referred to as EDRA, announced its board members. DLR Group Principal and Design Research Leader B Sanborn, AIA Allied, EDAC, joins EDRA’s Board of Directors for a three-year term. Their industry experience will create an exploratory dialogue with academic counterparts. EDRA aims to enhance the understanding and relationships between people, their built environments, and natural ecosystems.

Sanborn’s role as a principal and research leader in DLR Group – a global integrated design firm – sees them leading a team of researchers whose clients include Fortune 500 companies, leading educational institutions, and luxury hotel flags. This perspective complements other EDRA board members’ focus in academia. Bringing research, teaching, and practice perspectives together provides an opportunity to create a vital feedback loop.
“My board term will focus on connecting academic research to affinity organizations and real-world design applications,” said Sanborn.
Sanborn also plans to build a lasting framework that informs how individuals can train for, seek out, and succeed in design research positions outside of academia. These efforts will normalize a relatively unknown alternative career path.
