Founded In
BGA was founded by Calvert S. Bowie, AIA, and William C. Gridley, FAIA with three commitments in mind: design, client continuity, and culture. With a 40-year legacy of designing schools, residence halls, libraries, academic buildings, athletic venues, and campus green space, the firm’s impact was more than physical – it created a historical influence on campus culture that would last for 100 more years of learning and growing.
Signature BGA design in the mid-Atlantic region included work with clients like Ballou High School, Choate Rosemary Hall, Episcopal High School, Georgetown University, and Loomis Chaffee School.
Today, BGA’s perspective influences our growing independent school practice across the United States, while DLR Group’s educational, civic, and private practices have expanded within BGA’s established presence along the Atlantic coast of the United States.

Meet our People
Our sector, discipline, and executive leaders are dispersed to mentor the next generation of employee-owners, counsel clients, and share their design voice in their local communities.
Design Opportunities
The concept of ownership, its importance to our culture, and the immense benefits are rather simple. Driven by opportunity, we make decisions that impact not only our success but also that of our clients and partners.
