Transforming a legacy building into a digital future

In Toggle magazine, DLR Group highlights its partnership with West Texas A&M University to transform the historic Geneva Schaeffer Education Building into an advanced digital learning hub. The renovation preserves the building’s legacy while introducing immersive learning environments, production studios, VR capabilities, and flexible infrastructure designed to support the future of higher education.

“We wanted to take a building that has always been about teaching and learning and reimagine it for the next generation of students,” said Principal and Higher Education Leader Emily Winters, AIA, LEED Green Assoc.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful design can blend historic preservation with innovation, creating a dynamic space that enhances online education, faculty support, student engagement, and long-term adaptability.
