DLR Group to Present at 2024 SCTEA Annual Conference
Join our team at the upcoming South Carolina Technical Education Association Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Principal and Higher Education Design Leader, Benjamin Strain, AIA, LEED AP and Architect and Senior Associate, Arlenne Gil, AIA, NCARB will be presenting a session titled “Creating Authentic Learning Environments for Flexible Career Pathways.”
Career Technical Education encompasses a large variety of hands-on learning spaces. This session will explore the importance of understanding the similarities and differences between various CTE pathways that are key to maximizing the value of your space and designing for authenticity. Benjamin and Arlenne will discuss two case studies that highlight the importance of authentic learning environments, whether in a K-12, higher education, or hybrid campus model, regardless of geographic location. They will share the top five lessons learned from their practice to successfully create varied learning spaces that balance design rigidity and flexibility, such building construction, automotive, health sciences, or human services.
Learning objectives include:
- Understanding & prioritizing needs vs. wants of end-users for each career pathway
- How to identify common ground, shared goals, and optimized spaces between different career pathways
- How to leverage connections with industry partners to ensure program success
- How to create scalable/adaptable spaces that will serve current students and attract future ones
- Key building considerations for successful CTE learning spaces
Benjamin and Arlenne’s session will be on the second day of the conference, Friday, February 16 from 8:00 – 8:50 AM. Between sessions on February 15 and 16, stop by the DLR Group booth and meet our team, including Project Manager Soraya Saffouri, AIA, NCARB.
