Federal Programs Leader Michael Huffstetler Named President-Elect of SAME

(WASHINGTON, D.C., May 7, 2024) – DLR Group Principal and Federal Programs Leader Michael Huffstetler, LEED AP, F. SAME, has been elected President-Elect of the Society of American Military Engineers. In this role, Huffstetler will support the current SAME National President Sharon Krock’s priorities before assuming the role himself in 2025 as the society’s 106th President. In accordance with SAME’s bylaws, the President-Elect supports the President’s priorities and “will direct and coordinate activities of the Board of Direction in a role determined by the President.”

DLR Group has been a SAME Corporate Member Firm since 1987, helping further their mission of bridging the public and private sectors across the A/E/C community to strengthen national security. Huffstetler will continue this dedication in his new role, helping to implement SAME’s five-year strategic plan with his colleagues as part of SAME’s governance. As President-Elect, Huffstetler aims to build on the organization’s legacy of service while positioning it for future growth and impact.

As Federal Programs Leader for DLR Group, Huffstetler has developed extensive expertise in delivering secure and resilient design to federal agencies and the military. His past experience includes serving as an Air Force Exchange Officer at the Pentagon and growing DLR Group’s military-focused relationships, contract vehicles and projects. His subsequent private sector experience includes nine years as a project manager in the commercial aviation sector working on capital improvement programs at Washington-Reagan, Dulles, and Miami-Dade airports, followed by international project management and a return to federal work in 2007. A SAME member since 1988, Huffstetler has served as a volunteer, student-mentor, and Board member with the Omaha Post since 2016 and has served on both the National Board of Direction and the Executive Committee since 2020.
