Founded In
Founded in 1905, Westlake Reed Leskosky grew to become a top-ranked practice with a reputation of craftsmanship both locally and globally. The firm’s holistic approach to design integrated architecture, interiors, and engineering, as well as a host of specialty consultants including audiovisual, acoustics, and theatre planning. Westlake Reed Leskosky also committed themselves to research excellence. Significant percentages of profit were reinvested in research, supporting highly technical projects like the LEED Gold Wayne N. Aspinall Federal Building in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Creating community in performing arts spaces was the core of their practice. From household name institutions, including the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery, to more intimate spaces including Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in New York and the Heard Museum in Arizona, the firm not only designed for the arts but was a passionate patron of the arts. Westlake Reed Leskosky revitalized Cleveland’s Playhouse Square, which houses eleven venues, into the second-largest unified performing arts district in the United States, only second to New York’s Lincoln Center. This work underpinned a preservation practice which saw more than a dozen historic playhouses across the United States restored and ready to entertain new generations.
The founding partners were proud of these and other long-standing partnerships that shaped Cleveland and the Cuyahoga Valley including the Cleveland Clinic, Oberlin College, and corporate campuses like Nestle, Murphy USA, and Parker Hannifin.
Westlake Reed Leskosky’s design acumen earned the firm No. 1, No. 7 and No. 2 rankings on Architect Magazine’s list of the top 50 U.S. architecture firms, respectively, in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Having received over 200 design awards, Paul Westlake, FAIA, was also the recipient of Cleveland Arts Lifetime Achievement prize.

Design Opportunities
The concept of ownership, its importance to our culture, and the immense benefits are rather simple. Driven by opportunity, we make decisions that impact not only our success but also that of our clients and partners.
