Mission Bay School is a dynamic, four-story campus that anchors a growing San Francisco community while advancing San Francisco Unified School District’s vision for equity, sustainability, and community connection. Designed as a vibrant hub of activity, the school brings together families, educators, and partners in a shared environment that supports pre-K through fifth grade, dedicated professional development, and a future STEM-focused Linked Learning Hub connecting students to real-world pathways within Mission Bay.
The project interprets this vision through a cohesive campus experience organized around clear, intuitive circulation that helps students of all abilities move easily between spaces. Learning studios are designed with multiple points of access and are paired with adjacent breakout rooms, supporting a range of learning styles, group sizes, and levels of independence. Transparent partitions and interconnected layouts create continuous sightlines between classrooms, shared commons, and circulation areas, reinforcing visual connection and awareness across learning communities and into the surrounding neighborhood.
Flexible, light-filled learning studios empower student choice and collaboration with direct connections to outdoor environments that extend learning beyond the classroom and support early learners’ sensory development. Upper levels foster innovation and interdisciplinary exploration through shared spaces and breakout zones that promote visibility and connection across learning communities. All-electric systems, daylighting, and solar strategies support the district’s energy performance goals while reinforcing a forward-looking approach to sustainable design that reflects Mission Bay’s character and supports long-term resilience.
