Improving Public Health Outcomes in Tennessee
We are presenting at the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Group on Business Affairs and Group on Institutional Planning’s 2022 Joint Spring Meeting. This session will provide a look into the design of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s new College of Medicine building.
Principal Chris Ertl, AIA, LEED AP; Senior Principal Philip LiBassi, FAIA, FACHA; and Principal Krisan Osterby, will review the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s leadership process, institutional priorities, and implementation strategies developed to support the vision of their new College of Medicine building including:
- Reversing the current state of facilities on campus, avoiding the “status-quo” of passing the burden on to future generations, restricting future recruitment, and limiting healthcare advancement and service potential.
- Investment in the professional education of the State of Tennessee healthcare workforce, exceeding the national standard of care in a region that has been historically underserved and ranks lowest in the country for many public health parameters.
- UTHSC’s geographic catchment zone, and the need for efficient state-of-the-art facilities.
- Reflection on the institution’s response to the pandemic and the benefits from applying new space standards, saving the project upwards of $15M in construction costs.
