DLR Group and Compton Unified Launch New Centennial High School Campus
(Compton, Calif. May 7, 2026) – Compton Unified School District celebrates a major milestone in the transformation of its community as the district breaks ground on the new Centennial High School. District leaders marked the occasion on Thursday, May 7, alongside Centennial scholars, community members, and local dignitaries. The DLR Group-designed campus welcomes its first cohort of scholars in August 2029.
The new campus rises on the existing 32-acre site, replacing the original Centennial High School that opened in 1954. The reimagined 220,000-SF facility spans multiple buildings and serves more than 1,800 students. The campus features a 42,000-SF performing arts center, future-ready and career and technical education learning spaces, collegiate-level athletics facilities, and a new CIF competition pool.
The Centennial High School groundbreaking marks the next chapter in the continued partnership between CUSD and DLR Group. The two previously collaborated on the design of Compton High School, which opened in August 2025. DLR Group and CUSD continue to engage the community through a series of intentional design meetings, while advancing a comprehensive strategic facilities master plan that supports the district and community’s long-term vision.
