DLR Group and Blue Valley School District Showcase Wolf Springs Middle School

(Overland Park, Kan. Sept. 21, 2026) – DLR Group, in partnership with Blue Valley School District, celebrated the dedication and grand opening of Wolf Springs Middle School on Sept. 18, a new campus designed to promote collaboration, creativity, and community for middle school learners.

The 140,000-SF school serves approximately 800 students and reflects the district’s vision for a flexible, student-centered learning environment. Designed to put learning on display, the building creates a strong visual connection between the interior and exterior, with a glass-walled gymnasium that showcases student activity. Bold, colorful architecture celebrates the arts with the expression of those spaces across the front of the building. At the heart of campus, a highly adaptable flex box serves as both a performance venue and instructional space, featuring a retractable stage that allows it to transition seamlessly between classroom learning, rehearsals, and performances.

The design organizes the campus into three grade-level pods, each defined by a distinct identity and featuring shared and adaptable learning areas, where double-height spaces within each pod support a full range of activities, from small group work to larger gatherings. In addition to core academics, the design supports expanded programming through dedicated spaces for career and technical education and specialized electives, enabling hands-on learning in disciplines such as STEM, digital design, and the arts. Additional features include performing arts spaces, a competition gym, a student commons, and centralized media hub. Natural light and access to outdoor spaces support student wellbeing, while the adaptable layout allows the school to evolve alongside future programs and needs.

Wolf Springs Middle School is the product of DLR Group’s integrated design team and Blue Valley Schools sharing a clear vision for students and community. By placing student voices at the center of the design process, the school provides learners with the support, connections, and opportunities they need to succeed.
