Reality Capture

Analyze site conditions in real time and turn data into design.

Reality capture delivers ultra-precise documentation that captures details invisible to traditional methods. From historic preservation to commercial development, reality capture accelerates design phases and reduces costs.

The Problem

Every Building Has a Secret

When working with a pre-existing building, designers inherit blueprints that may bear little resemblance to reality. Drawings rarely capture the improvised solutions of contractors or undocumented repairs.

These minor differences have big effects. Each discrepancy sends ripples through the project, a cascade of changes that can turn a straightforward renovation into months of creative problem-solving that inflates budgets.

The Solution

Reality Capture Reveals Secrets

Consider a recent warehouse renovation we designed for a global e-commerce firm. Initial drawings promised consistent floor grades throughout the facility. But when our team arrived for preliminary assessments, what was documented as perfectly level was in fact graded.

The Result

No Secrets, More Savings

Reality capture helped the client avoid an unwelcome surprise, while delivering a renovation that embraced the building's existing character rather than erasing it at considerable cost.

Instead of expensive floor corrections, we redesigned drainage and utility systems to follow the warehouse's actual topography, turning problematic grade changes into functional design elements.

"True disruption is finally here – and design technology is in the driver’s seat. Data-driven decision making informs design throughout DLR Group. I’ve been fortunate enough to carve my own path within DLR Group with reality capture. We are leaders in design technology, and we practice what we preach. There is no other place that I’d rather be than right here."
