Jane’s Walk NYC 2024 - Exploring Queer Harlem History

New York City, NY
Open in Maps
Saturday, May 4, 2024
11:00 AM - 3:00 PM EST

Join us on May 4 for two opportunities to experience the Queer Harlem Renaissance Walking tour at 11 AM and 1 PM. This tour will look at the influence queer social networks had on the development during the 1920s Harlem Renaissance, heralded with works by Black artists and writers. Utilizing augmented reality, this tour will show the relationship between sexual identity and architectural safe spaces within Harlem, highlighting the people, places, and histories from Drag Balls to Rent Parties. These spaces have since been demolished and historically forgotten; the tour allows participants to witness the digital reconstructions of the spaces that were integral for queer culture.

Register for the 11 AM tour.

Register for the 1 PM tour.
