(Detroit, May 20, 2026) – Henry Ford Health celebrated a major construction milestone for Destination: Grand as the steel structure for the new Henry Ford Hospital patient tower reached its full 20-story height above West Grand Boulevard in Detroit, Michigan. During the topping out ceremony, the final steel beam signed by hundreds of team members was placed atop the tower, marking continued progress on the 1.2-million-SF-expansion.

This project is a collaborative effort between HDR as designer and architect of record, DLR Group | Tsoi Kobus Design as design partner, and Hamilton Anderson Associates as collaborating architect.

Designed to expand access to advanced care and create modern healing environments, the new hospital facility will include 432 private patient rooms, 28 operating suites, five floors dedicated to specialized intensive care units and a 75,000-SF emergency department with 100 private treatment spaces. The project also includes a shared services building, a 1,500-space parking structure and a central energy hub supporting the campus’s fully electric-capable future.

The tower will connect to the existing Henry Ford Hospital through a series of bridges, supporting seamless movement across the campus while transforming all 881 licensed beds into private rooms.

Destination: Grand remains on track for completion in 2029 as part of the broader Future of Health: Detroit initiative.
