INTRO Columbus, formerly known as 9th and High, is an off-campus student housing project that advances sustainable urban living for students near Ohio State University. Rising 13 stories, it is the tallest mass timber student housing project in the U.S., prioritizing innovative construction and high-performance design. The 242,000-SF building includes 186 units with 493 beds, offering townhomes and traditional apartment layouts.

Exposed timber elements and a rich mix of communal spaces, including a second-floor amenity deck with grills, fire pit, yard-game turf, plus lounges, study rooms, and a library, encourage social interaction while supporting a connection to nature. The building’s brick masonry base reflects the neighborhood’s historic character, accented with bronze metal detailing that introduces a contemporary edge. As a transit-oriented development, the project minimizes the need for car ownership and includes abundant indoor bike and scooter parking. The project is currently under construction and expected to open by summer 2027.

Mass Timber Performs

INTRO Columbus topped out in September 2026, roughly ten weeks ahead of its original schedule, a pace the project team attributes to off-site prefabrication and tight field coordination. The mass timber superstructure is tracking to save 1,128 metric tons of carbon compared to an equivalent concrete and steel structure. Sourcing timber domestically from Alabama, rather than from Europe, also cut the project’s transport-related carbon emissions by approximately 55%, reinforcing mass timber’s performance on both schedule and sustainability.
