DLR Group Receives International American Architecture Award
(CHICAGO, October 20, 2020) – DLR Group has been awarded the American Architecture Award for its work on The Triumph, a transitional housing project in Washington, D.C. This award is recognized in the international design industry as one of the highest and most prestigious awards programs bestowed from three top architecture and design organizations (The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design; The European Center for Architecture Art Design; and Metropolitan Arts Press). This annual program presents the award as a way to honor the most significant buildings, landscape, and planning projects in the U.S. and abroad.
Named The Triumph by the community, this new 50-unit residence is located in Washington Highlands near the border of Maryland. It serves families from across the District of Columbia as a short-term family housing program created to prevent cases of homelessness. The residence provides families with a beautiful, inspiring, and dignified environment along with in-house support services to help families re-join their communities.
This project is not only beautiful in its aesthetics, but more importantly presents a beautiful and much-needed story of unity and restoration of individuals and their community in the Washington D.C. area. This is truly a great honor and a great example of how design can be a catalyst for social change within our communities.”
In addition to the 50 residential family units, The Triumph provides amenity spaces distributed throughout the upper five floors of the 36,000-SF building. The ground floor houses additional resident amenities including a multipurpose room, dining room, computer lab and health clinic, as well as operational and case management offices. These services provide the stability that residents need to help them find more permanent housing.
